The Republic of Hungary is located in Central
Europe, bordering the nations of Austria, Slovakia,
Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Ukraine and Romania. The
territory of Hungary is 93,030 sq km in the heart of
Europe. It has a population of 10.3 million people
and the capital is Budapest.
Republic of Hungary is a member state of NATO and a
Member in the European Union since 1st of May 2004.
As a full member of the EU, the country enjoys equal
status to the other member states.
The degrees granted by the Hungarian Universities
are automatically recognized in all EU countries.
The EU Directives list a few professions with common
educational criteria. These are medicine, veterinary
medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and architecture. Such
professional qualifications must be recognized
without any licensing examinations. The EU-Recognition
applies to only to the nationals of member states.
The Structure of Higher Education System in
Hungary
- It is a dual system of colleges and
Universities.
- Most colleges are associated with
Universities as college faculties.
- From January 1st 2000, Hungary has a network
of integrated higher education institutions. There are 17 State
Universities, 13 State Colleges, 26 Church Owned
Institutions and 6 Foundation Colleges.
In the course of the last decades, the Hungarian
Higher Education Institutions have become more and
more attractive for foreign students who arrive to
Hungary in an increasing number to get a degree or
become a Medical Doctor, a Dentist, a Pharmacist, a
Veterinary Doctor, an Engineer, a Teacher of
Physical Education, a Coach, a Kinesiology
Specialist or a Psychologist. The graduate s are
successful in passing the required examinations in
their home countries, like USMLE exam in the USA.
The first international educational programs in
Hungary started 20 years ago, in 1983. Since then
more than 15,000 foreign students from 52 countries
have graduated from Hungarian Universities. In 2003,
this outstanding anniversary will be celebrated in
Budapest by organizing the World Convention of
Alumni holding Hungarian University Degrees.
The common languages of instruction are English, and
German, depending on the interest of the students.
